As a celebration of Chris Wilkinson’s life, the documentary will present a selection of the many projects with a distinctive and unique trait that both reflects his personal creativity and essential touch, a legacy which is imbued in the studio design approach.
Based in London, WilkinsonEyre is an international architecture studio founded by Chris Wilkinson and Jim Eyre in 1999. Its portfolio includes numerous national and international award-winning projects. The designers’ work is based on an approach based on the aware use of technology and materials, integrating the awareness of the context into contemporary architecture. The works completed by the London-based firm incorporate aesthetic values, innovative technologies and cutting-edge structures in all sectors, including culture, sport and leisure, education, infrastructures, residential, offices and large-scale masterplans.
"Our projects give us scope to fulfil our love of design, and to make a worthwhile contribution to society. Each project is an opportunity to explore new ideas, and to try and build good architecture."
Chris Wilkinson
The firm’s most important projects include the Guangzhou International Finance Center – one of the world’s tallest buildings – the huge Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, the restoration of the Sir Giles Gilbert Scott's Battersea Power Station, and the temporary structure for the London 2012 Olympic Games Basketball Arena.
The current projects include the Compton and Edrich Stands at Lord's cricket ground, the new Centre for Horticultural Science and Learning for the RHS Garden Wisley and some towers in London, Sydney and Toronto.
Thanks to its aware design which pays attention to detail, the firm has won many prizes, including the prestigious RIBA Lubetkin Prize for both the Guangzhou International Finance Center and the Gardens by the Bay, and the RIBA Stirling Prize for the Millennium Bridge in Gateshead and the Magna Trust in Rotherham.
"We love to make dynamic use of space, light and materials, focusing on proportions to create something memorable that lifts the spirits and has a logic and sense of place."
Jim Eyre
