2021 events continue with the Architects Series, the series dedicated to leading contemporary architectural firms. Taking center stage in the webinar on Thursday, 10 June is Park Associati with the “Design Beyond Scale” video screening and lecture by founders Filippo Pagliani and Michele Rossi. The event will take place at 6.00pm, live streamed direct from the Iris Ceramica Group showroom in Milan and involving company flagship stores in Berlin and London. Anyone interested can view the event online on the Iris Ceramica Group digital platform.
The Architects Series – A documentary on: Park Associati” will open the 2021 season and is the 16th episode in the format created by THE PLAN magazine for Iris Ceramica Group. This year the show will take place online with guests live from flagship stores in Milan, London and Berlin, and also live streaming to give a wider audience the opportunity to watch the event and interact with speakers.
From 6pm to around 8pm on June 10, following prior registration on the Iris Ceramica Group digital platform, you can enjoy the approximately 30 minute screening of the video-documentary and subsequent live lecture “Design Beyond Scale”, during which Park Associati will share their vision of the world of architecture, defined by listening, research, creativity and experimentation. The theme of the conference will be the studio’s design philosophy, their most recent projects and adoption of a sustainable urban regeneration methodology applicable to every size of project, from a single building or block up to a district or city.
Founded in Milan in 2000 by Filippo Pagliani and Michele Rossi, today Park Associati employs a team of 60. While retaining a strong sense of tradition, their analytical, pragmatic and measured design approach is able to face new challenges with a fresh and experimental perspective. Working in Italy and worldwide, the studio has applied its experience to major projects in various sectors, including corporate headquarters, hybrid residential buildings and flexible multi-functional spaces for retail and restaurants.
One of the elements specific to Park Associati’s body of work is retrofitting, or the redevelopment and refurbishment of post-war buildings. Going beyond the concept of restoration or renovation, retrofitting is based on a series of practices which aim to reuse existing urban heritage. Rather than building from scratch, abandoned or disused buildings are reclaimed to give them a new lease of life, in line with current market needs and regulatory requirements. Projects might require minimal intervention, respecting the pre-existing structure, or alternatively the building might be completely re-imagined, keeping only the framework (hard-retrofitting). Working with bygone materials and restoring buildings means putting energy efficiency, and economic and social sustainability at the center of the design process.
Innovation, experimenting with technology and design concepts, and adopting an interdisciplinary approach are a fundamental part of Park Associati’s philosophy, amply demonstrated by Park Plus, its in-house research division to support design. Complementing Park Plus is Park Lab, a workshop that creates models and prototypes alongside the materials library, a space allocated to storing material samples for ongoing contact with products, to promote reflection and creative ideas for current and future projects. Since 2017, the Studio has also opened up to the city and other professional and artistic expertise by establishing Park Hub, a venue that hosts exhibitions, meetings and lectures to promote the exchange of ideas, opinions and expertise.
Participation entitles architects to 2 professional training credits.
